Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025)
After a few not so good films in the Jurassic Park series the last movie started a turn around for the quality. Jurassic World: Rebirth kind of went the neutral way in quality. The plot of the film is that a group go to an island where they used to experiment with dinosaurs to gather DNA from the 3 biggest dinosaurs on the island. They've been told that this DNA could help with medical research for humans. Like all of the movies before, they get to the island and things go wrong in many different ways. A family also gets dragged into the action when their vacation plans get interrupted when dinosaurs attack their boat. For the plot of the movie they could have cut out the whole family sections of the film and just focused on the main plot. I say this because Scarlett Johansson's character was too quick to be want to give up the pay for the job and give the DNA samples to the public. They should have built more in to the reason why she would have been willing to do that and maybe have even included some flashbacks. It would have been more meaning full then tacking on a side story. I will admit that the side story did have heart, especially as the father slowly has his feelings change towards his daughter's boyfriend and as we see the boyfriend step up during the chaos.
When it comes to the acting for the movie it felt flat for the most part. Also Scarlett Johansson's character still felt very Black Widow like in her very business approach with not as much emotion. The way she did the part felt like it matched the character they were going for, but I think she is being locked into playing one type of character and it would be nice for her to get a chance to branch out. Jonathan Bailey as the doctor was an ok choice. It did feel like they didn't build out his story as much as they should, like why he had been consulting for a company he didn't like while plotting to make the DNA open source. They didn't really build out his motivation or why he had a change of heart. There was a somewhat interesting part in the start of the film where the doctor is trying to decide if he was going to the island or not. He is chomping on Altoids and that is the only sound that is echoing through the museum. I found it interesting that the film makers would have zeroed in so much on that sound in that scene. He would also latter offer people some. Product placement is one thing, I thought that Altoids went out of style in the 2010s but looks like they are trying to make a comeback, but it just stood out as odd to me. There was an oral fixation there with no background or explanation. Also one character enters the film early on and I'm just shouting to myself, "Francis is in this film", aka Ajax from Dead Pool, real name Ed Skrein. This is another actor that seems to have been stereotyped into a certain type of role. Even though he could be counted as a 'good guy' in the film, his weapon craziness leads to a whole lot of trouble that the team wouldn't have had to deal with if he hadn't been trigger happy.
The CGI was about average for the Jurassic Park franchise. Of the dinosaurs shown I would say that my favorite of them was the Spinosaurus, but it was weird how they made it more of a water species that co-hunted with the Mosasaurus. It was even weirder that as a land dinosaur, still had normal legs and not modified, it would have gone over a hundred miles out from the island to attack the family's boat. Yes the spine on the Spinosaurus is kind of like a shark's fin, and could be used to drive fear, but it just didn't make sense in the way they were used. Then you had the Distortus Rex which in the face and parts of its bodily was clearly a rip off of a Rancor from Star Wars. It actually looked less like a dinosaur and more like a Rancor was mixed with a beluga whale (can be seen in the melon of the head). I'm not sure what they were thinking in creating this 'dinosaur', but I think they needed to roll back their artists a little bit. For the world that Jurassic Park lives in this creature just did not fit in. It threw off the whole movie by then making the CGI feel fake instead of just blending in. At the same time the cute little dinosaur that acted like a puppy was cute and I totally would have tried to keep it as a pet as well.
For this film I have to give it 3 stars out of 5 or a C. This is because of the plot holes and missed chances that they should have dug into and for the Distortus which was a disaster.

Pictures taken around the theater. We saw the show at the Northfield theater. For new releases they are currently cheaper then AMC theaters and if you get the special drink cups, refills are only $3 which can save you more money.

This was an interactive display where you could put your face in the display for selfies/photo ops. |
I noticed that the theater across from ours had a cool display where they were showing a trailer from the film, so as I was waiting for Mommy Geek I timed so cool photos.
Movie Partnerships 7 Eleven
7 Eleven also had cups to help celebrate the release of the movie. Some 7 Eleven locations even went through cool transformations to really show off the movie. Of course it was not any of the locations in Colorado, because the film industry likes to forget that Colorado exists unless they want to film something here. The straws were cool because they came with a detachable clip that could be used on other things like purses. You also didn't have to get matching cups and straws which allows you to mix and match.
