Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)
This film takes us back to the 1960s. The Fantastic Four already have their powers and are popular figures in Earth's media. They have to take on the Silver Surfer and Galactus. First off I'm going to say that remaking the Sliver Surfer and Galactus was disappointing. It has been done before and there was so many other plots that they could have stolen from the comics to make the movie. It was very been there done that, with the only differences being the time period the film was supposed to take place and then throwing in Sue Storm being pregnant.

The popcorn bucket was super disappointing. It was $22 which is the same price I paid at Regal for their Thunderbolts popcorn and drink combo with figure. The tin's metal was so weak, that even with me being super careful with it, one edge got bent before I even got it to the car. AMC is charging high prices for trashy popcorn buckets. Be careful if you buy any of them and remember that the quality of their buckets right now is not worth the prices they are charging.
I was disappointed in most of the casts' portrayal of the characters. Pedro Pascal was just too serious as Mister Fantastic. Most other actors have brought a little humor to the character which helped make him likable, but Pascal entirely missed that aspect of the character which cut into the audience being able to make an emotional connection to him. Vanessa Kirby did a similar thing to Sue Storm. Even when she was giving her speech about why she didn't give up her son to Galactus she still seemed very self absorbed and snobby. The only really good portrayal in the movie was Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch. This in a way was a good reversal with balance to the character. Chris Evans version was too much off the goofball/playboy while Michael B. Jordan's was too standoffish. Joseph Quinn balanced humor with showing that Johnny was still smart, but doesn't get to show it as much. Then there was them turning the Silver Surfer into a woman for what seemed to be the soul purpose of Johnny being able to have a crush on the 'sexy alien.' Yes, this movie would have been short on females if they had made the character male, but it seemed that she was a token character. The Fantastic Four is just a more male centered storyline.
Special effects were about average for a current movie. There was one scene where Galactus grabs the baby out of the window and the robot was right beside of the baby, but when he opens his hand he had tons of rubble and the baby but no robot. I think this was a continuity error that they didn't catch because the robot should have been in there as well. It was enough of an issue to throw me off for a few minutes. The blackhole scene was kind of interesting, but they made the mistake that the ship with way more mass would have had more issues with the gravity then the Silver Surfer who was a fraction of the weight of the ship. I know with movies you have to not think about things sometimes, but geeks and nerds more than likely have some background with science and will notice things like that. Movies are more fun when they play with real science instead of breaking science.
Overall the movie was ok. When compared with the other major Marvel movie that came out this year, The Thunderbolts, it just seemed like there was less effort put into it even though it looks like they dumped more money into it. I can see why it has made more money then The Thunderbolts. Not because it is a better movie, but that the marketing poured more effort into getting visuals for it out there. I have been able to find way more products, both items and food, for the Fantastic Four then I could for The Thunderbolts. The Thunderbolts was 100% a better movie. I can only give the Fantastic Four 3 stars out of 5 or a C. The score is only that high because of how well Joseph Quinn did with his part and that it was slightly better than Ant Man.

We saw the movie at the Southlands AMC. We don't go to this theater that often, but it was the only place that had a standard screening at a time that would work for us.The popcorn bucket was super disappointing.
