May Smaller Geeky Events (2025)

3RD: Free Comic Book Day
Check out our free comic book day specific article.

17TH: Prehistoric Aurora Opening Celebration
This event we got to late since we had an appointment near the start of the event. We ended up missing the crowds and the cup cakes.
All of the pieces on display are on lone from different collections or organizations. This display was cool because it showed what they dug up while building the VA hospital. In Colorado most people associate fossils with either being found in the mountains or out on the plains. They forget that they can be found even within the city limits of the Denver Metro area.
More cool pieces could be found in the different display cases they had.
The staff of the museum posing with one of the giant skeleton puppets that was outside the event to welcome people.

There were two different puppets. One that looked like new bone and one that looks like fossilized bone.

24TH: Rainy Day Anime's Mini Sakura Festival
I had really been hoping that this event would be better then it was. We drove all the way down to Colorado Springs for this event. The event was not ready to start on time and even half an hour in the Japan-American Society still wasn't set up. The purpose of the event was supposed to be helping them raise money for their organization. We actually left the event before they even unpacked the box on the table because of how long they were taking.
These were the give aways that the anime store had. Free samples of a snack they sold in the store, pins, and store themed stickers.
A sign telling you where things were, but it wasn't needed since it was a small event. Overall I felt that the event was disorganized. I don't think it was Rainy Day Anime's fault, but the fault of the people they invited. Both the charity organization and about half of the artists in the artist alley just weren't ready when the event was to start. It was like everyone was running late and did not give themselves enough time that day. One artist that was just starting to set up 10 minutes into the event told us to come back in about half an hour and they 'should' be ready then...needless to say we didn't go back. After about 45 minutes of disappointment we bounced.
