Marvel Voices: Marvel 1 (Free Comic Book Day 2025)

Marvel Voices is Marvel's directly focusing on characters that fall into the DEI/JEDI/IDEA topics. Comic books have always addressed topics within these topics, but Marvel Voices pays special attention to them.

This specific comic has a balance of ethnic diversity and LGBTQ+ topics while I was sad to see that they are still not including accessibility related characters. Characters with disabilities are still largely missing from this series. The Ironheart time travel story was ok, but I hope in the actual comic that they spend more time in the past. I liked how they included Engine 21 and I would hope that it would make people more interested in doing their own research on the topic.

The Storm/Black Panther story made me want to read more of the back story on how those 2 met not necessarily on the story that they were trying to advertise for. The X-Men story pulled you in with the final panel saying "This is not the woman I love." It makes you question what is going on and why she would say that. The Ghost Rider one was way to short to be of any use or interest and should have either been longer or entirely cut from this sampler.

The story that caught my interest the most was ice giant Loki vs. a Native American character. As a history buff this was super interesting if you have ever heard of the Vikings having landed in North America long before the Spanish arrived. To me this is a cool mash-up that I would want to read more of even if it were to have taken place in contemporary times.

I liked this sampler and would give it 4.5 stars out of 5 or a A-.
