Free Comic Book Day 2025

There was so much craziness this year around if this would be the last Free Comic Book Day or not. At this point we still do not know if it will truly return next year, but on their social media they say that they will see us next year. The comic book stores were aware of this and I'm sure that they are worried since this day is the biggest shopping day for them each year and is like their Black Friday. Mile Hi Comics was even making announcements over the PA system that if this was the last official Free Comic Book Day that they would try to keep the spirit of it going next year. At the same time they said this while shoppers were experiencing higher prices at their store and I was supper disappointed that their $1 back issue comics section was gone replaced by a $3.95 section... 4 times the price and way higher then standard inflation can account for.
Some of the comics you could get this year.

Like every year we started the day off bright and early at All C's. We were shocked when we got there that we were not the first people there. We had been dethroned after over 5 years. The guy that beat us said that he had gotten there at 3am, but didn't think he would ever do it again because of how cold it was. Even with that we were still able to get the freebies we wanted because he was after the Turtles figure. This was a super quick stop for us since I already knew what I wanted to buy. If you go out for this and are able to do so, please make sure to make at least a small purchase at each place you stop at. It helps the stores keep going. For All C's I was aiming for back issues of Blade comics.

The next stop for us was then Monkey Paw Toys. The line had already cleared up there because this year they opened at the same time as All C's (10am). Most of the stores limit you to somewhere between 3-5 of the books, but at Monkey Paw they told us we could grab one of everything. Even with this we didn't get the who set, but close. With every purchase they were giving away a ticket to a raffle drawing that they would be have at 5pm, but you had to be there in person. I decided to hold off on my purchase until we returned. Mommy Geek found a vampire Deddy Bear she wanted and we were off to our next location.

The first in line had the chance to get a Free build kit. There was still one of the bigger kits left (bottom left of picture), but then they also had mystery ones from Pokémon and My Hero Academia.

Then we were off to Hall of Justice Comics in Parker. It was really small this year. Outside I did find some cool stuff. They had a section of comics where it was $5 per pound. One pound got me a lot of vampire comics that I will be adding to my review pile. So far I was striking out at my current personal challenge and that was trying to find any Thunderbolts merchandise or find older Bucky/Winter Soldier goods. When I asked here if they had anything they said that they couldn't keep it in stock, that it just went so quickly. So we grabbed our comics and then went on to the next stop.

They had artists and more in their upstairs section, but there was no signage to let people know that they had stuff going on up there. Because of this it was mostly empty.

I thought that if anyone today would have what I was looking for would be Mile High Comics, mostly because of just how massive it is (it is literally a warehouse). But no, I struck out here as well on my quest. I even ran into a person I knew from one of the local Star Trek groups and he tried to help me look...still no luck. One thing a lot of people were complaining about at this location is how much the prices had jumped since last year. I really only shop here once a year due to the higher prices and I need to be looking for a specific item I can't find elsewhere. This year just so I could meet my own personal social responsibility of supporting small businesses I bought 1 comic out of their $3.95 section and I did find a mother's day gift for Mommy Geek. It was super hard trying to hid what I was getting her, but luckily they had bags big enough to hid it.

At this point we were super tired, hungry, and ready to call it a day. This was the first year for Free Comic Book Day that we would not also hit up All C's south location. We headed back to Aurora to grab food and get back to Monkey Paw Toys for the drawing. I bought a couple of comics this time to get my own ticket for the drawing. While we were waiting for the drawing Mommy Geek and I were looking at the prizes and she said that she thought it would be cool to win either the Dragon Ball one or the Thunder Cats one. Leave it to her to win the second prize of the drawing, the Vegeta figure. I didn't win anything but the numbers around me got called, lol. After this it was time to head home and go through everything we got. We didn't get all of the 48 new ones for this year, but we were only 3 short. This was the closest we had ever gotten to getting the whole set mostly thanks to Monkey Paw Toys.

Will there be a Free Comic Book Day Next Year... I don't know, but if there is I will be there.

Update:
Here's the mother's day video that shows the Spock Funko I found Mommy Geek at Mile High Comics.

Yes I am a SeaQuest fan girl. Mile High Comics had some which shows how they also carry less main stream items, but they didn't have the one I wanted....
