Mile Hi Con: Getting Ready
This weekend we have Mile Hi Con going on. It is Colorado's longest running geeky convention. This con focuses on science fiction and fantasy literature. It is a family friendly event and might even help spark or enflame a child's love of reading.
To get ready for the con this year I interviewed some of the staff members and you can check those videos out below or by going to our YouTube page.
Basic Con Info
Pre-con ticket sales are over and you need to get your ticket at the door. I couldn't find out how much the tickets will be at the con on their website, I thought I heard $25 a day, but that maybe wrong. For more info on the con you can check out their website at: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4825890-the-inclusive-corporation
Schedule
Looking at their schedule I got really excited. We will only be covering Saturday, but I saw great panels scheduled every day. Some of the ones that stood out to me were: Disability in SF&F/Horror 4pm Friday, Self-Care in a World Gone Wild 6pm Friday, Resources & Ideas for SF/F/H in the Classroom & Library 1pm Saturday, and The Appeal of Paranormal Romance 10am Sunday. Special Guests
This year's special guests include Tananarive Due, Steven Barnes, Rick Sternbach, and more. There will also be local authors like A.L. Kessler and Chad Wannamaker.
Hotel
The con is located this year at the Denver Marriot Tech Center (next year they will be changing venues). The Marriot has been home to many geeky cons over the years ranging from Star Fest to NDK. The food at the hotel is not very good and is over priced. I even had a friend once get served a raw burger and when she complained to the hotel about it the restaurant staff told her tough and that she was responsible for paying for it even if it was uneatable. For food I would recommend bringing your own or eating at the limited nearby offerings. Within walking distance for able-bodied people there are food options like Wendy's. For people with more limited distance there is a Snooze down a path just to the south of the hotel, but their prices are high for average food. Their food is slightly better the the hotel's, but not by much. At least neither I nor people I know been served raw food there. This con does have a lot of bathrooms spread out throughout the public area and they usually have water stations. Stay hydrated, on that I normally do not lead by example but take care of yourself.
Looking forward to seeing all of my fellow geeks at the con.
