Colorado Anime Fest 2024: A Different Perspective
By Mommy Geek
CULTURE BEHIND ANIME
This panel was very informant on a lot of behind the looks of animes. It was worth staying for and the presenter knew the information they were presenting.
-Oldest Anime was Astro Boy. (I actually grew up watching this one.)
-Best seller is Demon Slayer, and the 2nd best seller is Spirit Away.
-The presenter went over different foods and table manners:
Raman in Japan is actually pronounced as Lamin.
No elbows on the table
You can slurp noodles but not allowed to make any noise doing it.
Bowls of rice is always on the left side.
No Stabbing the food (like with a fork or chopsticks)
Clean Plate Rule – everything must be eaten right down to the last grain of rice.
No Passing of Food: You cannot take chopsticks and grab food that someone else is holding out to you with their sticks. The food must be put on a plate and then the 2nd person can take the food with their chopsticks.
-She also talked about clothes and that each pattern has a different meaning:
Clouds on material = Lucky Charm
A Wave Pattern on material = Peace for Ever.
There was a special meaning to all of the different pattern that we see in anime and in cloths.
This was a great panel, everyone learned a lot, and came away with a new understanding of anime and Japan itself.
A VIRTUAL TOUR OF DENVER’S SISTER CITY: TAKAYAMA, JAPAN
A VIRTUAL TOUR OF DENVER’S SISTER CITY: TAKAYAMA, JAPAN
You could tell that the presenter loved Takayama and wanted others to see the beauty of the city. The presenter was a Westward writer and a music critic.
-The Sister City act was stated in 1958 by D. Eisenhower. Takayama became Denver’s sister city in 1960.
-Takayama is South and then West of Tokyo. The city lies 4 hours from Tokyo.
-March /April is the Cherry Blossom time there and people eat picnic lunches in the park, while the blossoms fall like snow on them. They have a Cherry Blossom Festival. During the Festivial they have floats and puppet shows.
-The presenter stated do not go to Japan in July or August.

I found this to be very interesting and for more information, you can go to:

LETS EAT: THE SLOW ACCEPTANCE OF JAPANESE IN AMERICA
-Chinese food went from exotic to mainstream in America in the 1900’s. Then Japanese food was accepted and then other types was accepted.
-This was a response to the loop hole in the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 which stated if you owned or ran a restaurant you could stay and your family could come. So families could bring friends over by saying they are sons and daughters. These people became known has PaperSon (family in paper only). --Restaurants where popping up all over. The restaurant Benihana which mean red flower showed Americans that new food and new cultures could be fun.
This was a good panel by a man that came over with his family when he was very young. He was very knowledgeable.
COLOADO ANIM FEST 2024 OVERALL
COLOADO ANIM FEST 2024 OVERALL
It was a good time for all with lots of different panels. There was something for everyone. I was glad to see that they were selling their mascot, Rocky, in a large plushie. I had been wanting one for years.
I think that the con goers themselves need to be remined to use their brains and manners when they go to any con. There were people doing flips, not looking what they were doing on the landing area on the Peak level. One teenager almost kicked me in the face coming out of the ladies restroom. The group of them just did not care what they could do to the other people, not just the elderly or very young.
I also heard a lot of bad talk bout cosplay costumes. If you can not say something nice then please do not say anything at all.
So that all cons can remain for everyone please watch what you do and say. Do not just let your ego get out of contral or your mouth for that matter.
