NDK 2023: Day 3
So on this day I nearly decided not to return to the con, but one of Mommy Geek's favorite things, the model make and take, was happening and she convinced me to go back instead of just calling an end to the con.
The Model Show and Make and Take
We got there about 2 hours before the model make and take which allowed us to be first in line. The next people to show up was about 15-30 minutes later. The line for this event always starts super early and fill in fast. Normally they have enough for 50-100 people, so if you want to do this event I recommend you get in line early.
The model show opened up about an hour before the make and take, and people could go in and check out the show.
The above baby dragon was my favorite of the show. If any one remembers The Indian in the Cupboard book, I would so put this little guy in the cupboard. The above monster was just weird enough to catch my attention, but I have no idea what it's supposed to be.
Bear models have been popular for awhile and has even been one of the models in the past that you could make and take with you. There are so many different kinds and colors.
This year the model make and take had all different Gundams that you could do. Normally I avoid the robots because they normally take more time to do and have lost of pieces. Even with that I think it turned out good. You can check out how the build developed at: https://www.tiktok.com/@geekedcolorado/video/7274679316892355883 .

Ready, Player Drag with Salem Moon
Description: Ready Player Drag is a fun, family-friendly drag experience with dancers and pieces that were brought together just for NDK! From start to finish, this is a visually stunning show full of performances from some of the best drag performers from both Denver and Dallas Texas. Ready Player Drag aims to entertain the audience and introduce them to a community of Queens that are supportive, successful, and nerdy like just them.
Overview: I actually really liked the show and didn't mind so much afterward that Mommy Geek had convinced me into going to it. The show was said to be all age but I would disagree with this. Most of the show was fine, but the Kill Bill part was a bit violent for all ages and should not have been in the show in that form. At one point the performer was violently stabbing a blow up doll. This part could have been cut out to truly keep the show all ages. I hope that NDK does bring this show back with some editing next year.
After this we called it a con and well just have to hope that next year will be better.
