7/4/23: "Indiana Jones and the Other Worst Archaeologists in Movie History"- As someone with a background in both anthropology and archaeology many times I have to separate out real life from movies. Yes, movies do provide a lot of false information and what some of these characters do would actually get them arrested instead of recognition. At the same time this article does a lot of its own stretching on the subject. First off it lumps in treasure hunters with archaeologists. There is a key difference since treasure hunters are looking to sell/get rich from what they do vs archaeologists are in it for the knowledge or to protect what they find. So the author showed clear misunderstanding of the overall situation. Both sides can have degrees (even advanced degrees) and the difference is in their goals. Jones is an archaeologist because of his end goals, but yes there are issues with what he does. Like he does not excavate things properly, smuggles artifacts across borders, and a general breaking of laws. Rick O'Connell shouldn't have been on this list because he is a treasure hunter. Evie should have been on this list because even for the time period the movie was taking place she wasn't even using the basic archaeology practices that was in use then. 7/13/23: "Disney CEO Announces Plans to "Make Less" Marvel and Lucasfilm Projects"- This is super sad news. Disney buys up these franchises and then just gives up on them. I was actually worried when Disney moved away from producing their own stuff or focusing on kids stuff because I didn't think it would last and it's now happening.
