Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

After the crystal skull movie I wasn't sure about this movie. I was ready for the end of the series, or at least Harrison Ford's part in the movies. After watching it, it felt anticlimactic. I'm going to give you a warning ahead of time, this review will include some big SPOILERS. For this film they brought back some familiar faces while adding some all new ones. In addition to Karen Allen (who had a super small role in the movie) we also had John Rhys-Davies. The disappointing part was that they had killed of Indiana's son, who had previously been played by Shia LaBeouf. I know that people don't really like Shia LaBeouf, but they could have had a different actor play him instead of just saying he died in the war. It actually cut off any hope of the series continuing like people were wanting. To be truthful I think that this movie should not be counted into the the actual cannon for the series because of just how much it gunked everything up.

The main plot of the movie was that an ex-nazi is trying to get his hands on the Dial of Destiny so that he can travel back in time, take over the Nazis, and win the war. The Dial of Destiny was actually based off of a real life artifact called the Antikythera Mechanism. At first he is being supported by the CIA since he had been 'helping' the US as a scientist, but not long into the move he cuts his ties. We are introduced to Indy's god daughter which was disappointing in the massive amounts of character flaws they made her have and that by the end of the movie viewers are just hoping that she is not the next person to pick up where Indy left off. In the race to find the dial of course there is a little time travel near the end, but even that is cut so short that it was not even done in an interesting way.

The special effects were lack luster and places where they could have done cool things, like with the time travel, they just left you wanting more. Just overall anticlimactic.

Yes, I am being very hard on this movie since they are calling it the end. I wish for an ending movie that they would have put more care and thought into the film. It actually made me wish that they would have just ended the series with the crystal skull movie in which it ended with hope instead of a sputtering death. 1 star out of 5 or a F-, could I go lower with a Z-.

The dial in the movie has no real patina which it should have had due to its age. Patinas are caused by chemical processes over time. Colors and textures change and trying to remove patinas can damage the artifact.

This is an image of all of the pieces that the Antikythera are actually in. As you can see there is a thick patina on the artifact that attests to its age and the hard life it has had.
