2023 Book Reviews April-June
All of the books/graphic novels in this article have an ISBN and that is why they are in this category instead of with comics as comic spotlights.
Rabbits By Terry Miles
This book had a very slow start, much like trying to drag a dead body. It was only about the last 100 pages or so that were interesting. I think if the first part of the book would have been built like the end, it could have been really good. Parts of this reminds me of The Secret search mixed with broken reality. This was one of the many books that I had gotten at Stroker Con. It's not really horror and it just not even manage to grip real suspense. 3 stars out of 5 or a C.Katy Keene: Model Behavior By Andrew Pepoy
This comic would be perfect for a preteen that is into fashion. So... not really my thing, but I still wanted to check it out since it shows how comics/graphic novels can be used to match any group. Even though there is some storyline (like how Katy got into the entertainment industry) it feels really like a lot of one shot stories most of the time. There are lots of outfits with the names of who designed them. The version I got even had paper dolls in it. I had found this at 2nd and Charles in their clearance area. Any more it is very hard to find used graphic novels there because they have started to focus on mostly new stuff. 3 stars out of 5 or a C.The Seven Deadly Sins Vol. 1 By Nakaba Suzuki
I actually liked this book. I had found it in the $5 manga at Five Below and decided to just just read it for the fun of it. I had not heard of this series before and had no idea of what I was getting myself into. It is a little fairy tale like and I think my favorite character so far is the pig. I would read more of this if I found it at the library, but I'm not sure about spending money on more of it. 4 stars out of 5 or a B+.Dick Fight Island Vol. 1 By Reibun Ike
When I first heard about this book I thought it was a joke, and then one day I saw it for sell and though, "it's actually real." Yes, it is what it sounds like and they really did go there. As an anthropologist it made me wonder what a society like this would be like and how it would impact understandings of both sex and gender. Even though this is a yaoi manga it can raise other questions about society. 4 stars out of 5 or a B, mostly just because of the weird amusement value.
