Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 (2023)
At first when I heard about this movie coming out I got super excited, but then I remembered the 2nd one. When a friend saw it before me he said that he actually thought that this was the best film yet and I decided to give it a try.
Not too much of a spoiler alert, but this movie was a bit depressing. I say this because of the cruelty it shows and what happens to Rocket's friends. The movie starts off with Adam showing up at the Guardian's base and reeking havoc. In the chaos Rocket is badly injured and they can't try to fix him because he has a kill switch in him. In order to save his life the Guardians must dig into Rocket's past and while doing this the movie also shows Rocket's past in his memories as he is unconscious. This film is filled with a lot of death which is done in a way that it tugs at your heart strings. I go to movies to have fun and not be depressed. Yes there are happy endings, but you still leave the theater feeling "less" then when you went in.
The acting was about normal for a Marvel and Guardians movie. The one thing that I did like was that this movie brought more out of Drax. There was a bit more character development with him and it looks like he finally figures out how to best use his skills (besides killing people).
The special effects for the film were good. Watching a planet being destroyed can be interesting in how they handle the details. I really did enjoy how they handled the evolved animals on the planet and the bat creatures were so cute, yes I do like bats in real life and think they are cute in general.
For the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the music was down perfectly and blended so well into each scene that when people hear the songs out in the real world the scenes from the movie start to play in their minds. When it comes to the music of this film it was just as big of a failure as the second movie was in that they did not blend the music into the scenes and the songs are forgettable as soon as the scene is over.
Overall, I was kind of disappointed with the movie. I miss the days of leaving Marvel movies feeling empowered. I'm waiting for Marvel's return to greatness, but I don't know when it will come. 3 stars out of 5 or a C.
This was the special themed drink that AMC had out for the movie. I didn't try due to the high prices that they were charging for a small drink. |
I had a bit of sticker shock when I asked how much the Rocket popcorn bucket was. I was ready to pay $25 which is what past buckets had gone through, but when they told me $49.99, I was like NOPE. I've now found them on eBay for around $80. https://www.ebay.com/itm/404257649744 |
