Leprechaun 4 (1996)

Where to start with this movie?....Leprechauns should never be given light sabers....Yes I said light saber. The instant that happened I knew this move was just going to be full of puns and all around craziness. In this film there is a troop of mercenaries that are being paid to hunt down the leprechaun. At one point near the start of the movie they think they've completed the job, but the leprechaun won't make it that easy. Also a note to all of those thinking about doing it... never pee on the corpse of a leprechaun or you might give birth to one. Of course there is a hot alien that the leprechaun wants to marry so that he can become a king and take over the universe. There is also the mad scientist that is part machine and has no scruples about doing whatever experiment he wants.

There is a lot of old school humor like the assistant of the scientist getting caught feeling up the unconscious alien princess. Some of the jokes do not fit into our current society and the film overall was very sexist even though it didn't have to be. Then there is timeless humor like when the leprechaun grows in size he just needs to check inside his pants to see if everything got bigger "wink wink." There's even a drag show.

The acting for the most part is bad and cheesy. Warwick Davis at the same time is always amazing to watch in how he brings life into the characters he plays. The rest of the cast did not stand out.

For special effects, they were also bad for the most part even for the 1990s. Slight spoiler: at one point the mad scientist gets mutated into a monster that is supposed to be part spider and part scorpion, but the makeup they used on him really didn't resemble either one. This transformation could have been really cool but they failed in the carry out. It was just mostly lumpy and amorphous. Even when you see something that might be a tail, instead of looking like a scorpion tail it was lumpy and looked like it had pimples. The only good makeup job was the leprechaun where if you looked close you could see the fine details in the makeup.

When compared to the other Leprechaun movies, this one was much more of a joke and not really as scary. I would watch it again if it was near St. Patrick's Day and there wasn't anything else on. 2 stars out of 5 or a D+ because they missed out on some things that could have made the movie better if they would have just stepped back and looked at what they were doing.
