Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)

For this movie I had managed to avoid reading any of the early reviews and stayed away from most info on what the plot was. I will fully admit that I did not like the first Ant-Man movie and thought that it was one of the worst Marvel movies. I never even saw the second movie because of how disappointed I was with the first one. What drew me to this one to give it a try? To be truthful, just the special effects caught my attention.

The special effects were as amazing as the previews made them out to be. The scenes in the quantum realm were amazing. The animals were just as good as the ones in the Avatar films. Also the different species of beings were really cool. Some of these differences made for some of the funnier parts of the movie like the goo creature that wanted to know how many holes everyone had. Then you also had the psychic one that admitted that everyone just had dirty thoughts.

Even though the special effects were amazing the acting was average, but the movie still managed to pull off not being that bad. The main plot is that the characters get sucked into the quantum realm when one of them tries to shut down an experiment. We find out that Janet, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, had a lot of secrets and unfinished business that she left behind in the quantum realm. Bill Murray's appearance was super short, but did bring a few jokes to the scene. At the same time, the input of M.O.D.O.K. just seemed like it was half done. It was more a comedy relief then something that could cause fear. The acting for this movie was about average. The one good character part of this movie was the relationship between Ant-Man and his daughter. It goes to the classic argument of when do you acknowledge that a child is grown up. This is one of those classic human struggles that helps to the relationships in the movie to seem more real.

This film actually had two end scenes. The first one we get to see other versions of the villain and we understand that they were the evil that he was speaking about because they are just as messed up as he was. There was an interesting play on their costumes where one had a very obvious Egyptian influence and one of the others was either Babylonian or Sumerian. I wonder if they will explain why they were dressed that way. The other end scene has Loki acting very scared of a different version of the character. Where will this plot line go... but if Loki is afraid then the multiverse is in trouble.
