Lunar New Year Anime Special

During the Lunar New Year this year, Xfinity had a special where you could watch a whole bunch of Asian movies and T.V. shows for free. They partnered with a few different providers like Kocowa and the Anime Network. This included a whole bunch of Anime that I wasn't familiar with, so I decided to sample a whole bunch of them. Below are a few reviews of some of the ones I got to watch. I really do enjoy it when Xfinity does these free samples since it gives people a chance to experience more series besides what they can get on Adult Swim.

Maid-sama
This anime reminded me a lot of Hana Yori Dango in that the main female character comes from a poor family and has to work a side job to help them out. Her father had ran off leaving the family with a mountain of debt and even with her mother working she had to pick up a side job while going to a cheap high school since they can't afford for her to go to a better one. Her father leaving emotionally impacted her and how she interacts with males. I actually really did like this series. It pulled me in because I wanted to see how the relationship between the main male and female character would develop since he knows her secrete of working in the maid cafe. I watched the first 3 episodes of this anime and it was dubbed. The voice actors did a good job with it. I know if given the chance to watch more of this series I would.

Gargoyle of Yoshinaga House
A family wins a gargoyle at a fair, but it turns out to be a real gargoyle that actively protects the family and interacts with them. The gargoyle  also has the ability to talk to animals. The gargoyle looked more like a dog with wings then a classic gargoyle. I only watched the first episode of the series, but it really didn't make me want to watch more. It was cute enough, but it didn't have the power to draw you in even though the first episode ended in a cliffhanger where the main character disappears. This could be one of those mindless animes that you put on in the background as you do other things.

Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto

Sakamoto is the classic megane character. He's too good at everything to be real. Things that are too perfect just are not that interesting. I only watched the first episode of this series because it just did not catch my attention. The first episode had two little episodes in it, but there was not enough development to draw watchers in. Also the voice acting was horrible. All the male characters had too deep of voices to be believable as high school students. I actually found this distracting. This anime I was watching subbed so it was the original Japanese voice actors that did not do a good job. Would this anime be better dubbed?....I don't think so because there just doesn't seem to be enough to drive the plot.
