Halloween Ends (2022)

I got last minute info today that I had gotten a ticket to see Halloween Ends tonight. After seeing the last movie I really didn't believe the title and was curious to see where they were going to take the story. I will try to not give any spoilers, but some of the details may be a bit too much....

First off the story starts off with Laurie and her granddaughter living together in a different house then the one that has been at the center of the previous films. At one point you her in the background news saying that the house had been demolished. This movie mixes in comedy, gory kills, bullying, and romance... normally I would say leave the romance out since it is so over done in movies and used as a crutch to keep things going, but in this film both love stories actually had a point. Just like the last movie showed the worst of people, this movie showed how a community can create a monster.

I think the acting was very good in this move and much better then the last one. There were several characters that you actually wanted Michael to kill because of just how mean and cruel they were to their fellow humans. After the movie I overheard one person say that they felt embarrassed for Jamie Lee Curtis and that this movie didn't match with the other movies while feeling like it was part of a different series. I really didn't understand what this person was talking about. Curtis was amazing in this movie (so much better then the last one). She brought together a grandmother's love, with the spunky old lady, with just enough crazy to make for what I would actually call one of her best performances. There were just so many moments with her where I found myself cheering for her. The rest of the cast did a good job, but could not stand up to her performance.

Even though the movie does actually have some closure, it does leave itself open for a new dawn in the series. There were times where it made you think that this was the way they would keep the series going, but then they brutally break it. I would actually recommend this movie and give it 4 stars out of 5 or a A-.

As a side note, I will say though if you can't handle strobe lights or have medical conditions where quickly flashing lights can mess with you, you may want to avoid this film. There was one scene, that lasted way too long, where this effect was used too much and could mess with people in the audience in a bad way. It makes the movie not friendly to people with these conditions and is one of the reasons why I couldn't give it a higher score. I felt like this scene could have been done differently to still get the point across while not negatively impact movie goers. It's all about the choices made by the directors and producers.

At one point I changed seats so that a father and son could sit together. They had just been having people sit in random areas and the seat I moved to had this sign on it. For some reason I found it odd and funny at the same time for so many different reasons. When I pointed it out to the guy beside of me he broke out laughing at it. In a way it matched the dark humor that this film series is known for.
