Thor Love and Thunder (2022)
I'm going to start off with a slight spoiler: I'm sorry everyone who wanted to see a fully nude Thor. It just doesn't happen, but they do give you a nice shot of his butt. I can see that this movie tried to keep a family friendly rating in not only that, but also most of the fight scenes you only see gold blood flying. Maybe they think gold blood will be less traumatizing? If you do take your kids just be aware that there are still some very adult parts to this movie.
Our over all plot to this movie is that the main villain wants revenge on all the gods because his was a horrible being and let his daughter die. The movie makers did try to humanize him while showing how the sword he gets corrupts him. During this same time Thor has been working on getting back into shape while traveling with (AKA driving them crazy) the Guardians of the Galaxy. Jane has also been dealing with "inner demons" and it leads her to New Asgard where the fragments of Thor's hammer are kept. From here Jane and Thor team up with other friends to try and rescue the children that the villain took as bait. Not to give too much away, many parts of this movie don't go how you think they will when you walk in.
The writers made the first part of this movie, past the set up, very comedy heavy and then had the end very drama heavy. I found myself tearing up there in a few spots. This movie also includes some references to same sex partnerships, if you can count rocks as a sex, and does provide some diversity in that respect. There were also some cameos that got the crowd laughing. The acting was great and I was even impressed with how well the children did.
On an earlier post on Geeked Colorado's Facebook page I had asked people if they were liking the graphic art designed marketing materials for the movie because I really liked them. The movie was done in a similar style and colors. In a way it reminded me of the 1980s. There was a part of the film where they go into the shadow realm where the colors fade to a black and white scale unless there is added light (mostly coming from the weapons). The creatures were well done and it was interesting in how they designed all the different gods. In a way I want to know what happened to the gods they got their disguises from.
Overall I would give this movie 5 stars out of 5 or an A+. It was one of the best Marvel films in a long time and is worth all the hype it can get. Check it out in theaters this week.
