Pokemon Go Level 40
During this past weekend's Community Day event I finally hit the once coveted level 40. It took me 2 years and 8 months. There used to be a special club for people that had reached level 40, but since the levels have been expanded to 50 this club seems to have been reduced and I wasn't able to confirm if it was still going when I wrote this.
Doing it in this time frame I would be considered a casual player. I will admit there have been times where I haven't played at all and then there have been days where I have played for more than 8 hours.
What have I learned during that time?
First you need to fight in gyms and take them over to get gold coins. These are needed if you want to expand how many items and Pokemon you can store. This is extra important if you don't want to spend any money on the game. This leads to the second thing I have learned, you do not need to spend money on the game. If you put enough time and effort in the game you can get most of the things out of it for free. Another thing I would tell people is that one of the fastest way to level up is by making friends and sending them gifts. You can get tons of XP as you level up your friendship. There are actually groups on Facebook that you can join where people looking for friends will post their trainer numbers for people to add them. Sometimes you will get people that aren't very active, but you can always unfriend them.
You can catch some fun images of your Pokemon:

Now you can also mega evolve Pokemon. The effect does not last though. |

Shinnies can show up randomly and you never know if something could be one. |
