Curse of the Blood Ghouls/ The Slaughter of the Vampires (1962)

 

After selecting Curse of the Blood Ghouls from the list on AMC on Demand I was a little confused when the title The Slaughter of the Vampires popped up. I decided to look this up to see what was going on. It turns out that this movie really does have two titles. It was originally an Italian film with the title La Strage Dei Vampiri or The Slaughter of the Vampires, but when it was released in the U.S. it was released as the Curse of the Blood Ghouls.

The film itself follows the same premise as many vampire films. A vampire targets a beautiful woman that belongs to another man. After the attack the man goes to a doctor to get help for his love. Unfortunately, by the time he gets back it is too late to save her. His friend had warned him to take her with him, but he didn’t listen and because of it she couldn’t be saved. Spoilers: None of the females attacked in the film were able to be saved and the guy is nearly killed by the doctor until he realizes that the curse of the vampire ended when the main vampire was killed.

This film was a classic black and white with very little special effects. The vampires also didn’t have many abilities as they have in other movies. Many times they just had to run and hide from the humans chasing them. The main vampire was also useless and never tried to protect any of his brides from the humans attacking them. I guess to him each one was replaceable.

I give this file 3 stars out of 5 or a C grade for average. Nothing stands out good or bad in this film. I will admit though the first time I saw the main vampire he reminded me of how Peter Facinelli looked when he played Carlisle in the Twilight movies. I wonder if anyone had seen this film as they were designing his look.
