Colorado Festival of Horror 2021: Days 2 & 3 (Saturday & Sunday)
There are a few reasons why I combined these two days into one post, but we'll get to that later.
Day 2 started out with a free breakfast at the hotel. One of the people staying at the hotel had extra meal tickets that they gave us. So a good start. This day when I was not going to panels I was trying to fit in interviews with the guests.
Panels
12-12:55pm: Victoria Price "Vincent Price: Master of Menace, Lover of Life"
Victoria Price is Vincent Price's daughter. She wasn't at the con in person but tried to do a digital presentation. There was a lot of tech issues and she couldn't hear the con's side at all. She told a lot of stories about her father and talked about pictures in a slide show we couldn't see due to the tech issues. She shared so many interesting things so here are just a few that stood out:
-In his personal life he did not care about his personal dressing. He liked to wear $10 waiter pants because they wouldn't wrinkle.
-He had studied art history in England, and was a huge lover of art. This included him wanting to preserve Native American art.
-One of the quotes from him that stood out to me personally was "If you limit your interests, you limit your life." I've always felt this, but never voiced it this clearly. This is one reason why I have degrees in so many different subjects, read so many books, and now have 5 blogs on different topics going. In a way this panel made him seem like a kindred sole and when I have more time I think I will do some more research on him.
I would have really enjoyed this panel if everything would have been working. I would go to this panel again if the technology was working.
1-1:45pm: "Monster Lab" with Ed & Marsha Edmunds of Distortions
The Edmunds used to have a show on T.V. that was about the shop they run here in Colorado. This panel also had tech issues with the video they were trying to show (yes, it was in the same room as the Victoria Price panel which proved the room is just a black hole for technology). I really didn't get much out of this panel due to the fight to get the technology to work. The one thing that Ed did try to talk about was one of the props that they had built for Alice Cooper for one of his tours.
Right before my last interview of the day, my mother and I decided to go out to the smoking area for fresh air (no one was smoking out there and it was a good place to de mask for awhile). This was a mistake on our part. There were some bushes out there that ended up being full of wasps. One of them ended up landing on my mom and stung her 3 times. Wasps do not loose their stingers like bees do and this allows them to keep stinging you. Luckily the hotel did have a mini shop that had generic Benadryl and we were also able to get ice from one of the machines by the rooms. This bought us some time for my last interview. It was actually funny that when Smurf found out about it he recommended us do everything I had already done. He didn't know my background with first aid. Any way, this ended up making us have to leave earlier then we had intended and I missed the late night panels I wanted to catch.
Then on Sunday I ended up missing all the panels trying to get my last interview done.
Looking back on this con (minus the wasp) it was actually the best con of 2021 for me which is really impressive considering that it was its first year. Also coming out of the previous weekend's NDK it was a breath of fresh air. The people running and working the con were all very nice and I look forward to seeing them at future conventions.
