Resident Alien
The
new sci-fi series that takes place in a made up town in Colorado (Patience).
There are so many small towns in Colorado that I actually looked it up to
verify it wasn’t real. The series heralds the return of Alan Tudyk to another
sci-fi series (most loved for his portrayal of Wash in Serenity and Firefly).
Within the first few minutes of the first episode we are presented with a naked
Alan with a strategically placed arm.
Then
we get him learning how to talk and act human. The series then actually starts
when the town cops recruit him to help with the death of the town’s doctor. The
first episode even includes a drunk and then hung over alien. I was super
excited for this series, and I thought it was good but not amazing. I will
continue to watch just to see where it goes.
One thing I really liked was how they did the alien. The face is really expressive and that is one way they bring in the comedy to the series (like when he gets pissed or annoyed). They also work in different ways to see his true form, like in mirrors, to remind the audience what lies beneath. Then of course they also had to work into the series a child that can see him for what he really is.
The concept for the series came from a comic book series with the same name. Check it out.
