2020 Book Reviews July-September
Here are my book reviews for the third quarter of the year. Sorry that it's been awhile since the last post on the blog, but things have still been happening on the Facebook page. Life in 2020 has been crazy for this geek, and I bet it's been the same for all of you out there. All the books you will find on this list are books, manga, and graphic novels that have an ISBN.
Fiction
Avengers
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!: Hulk Versus the World
This
was a children’s book quick read. I feel that it was not thought through when
they were creating it, it’s choppy, and just boring. Black Widow’s behavior was way off and the storyline was a
corruption of the normal Marvel Universe. Even though it is a child’s book I
would not recommend it to any Marvel fan or their kids. Not only does it go
off, but it also just leaves you hanging with no formal conclusion to it.
I found this book in the free ben at 2nd and Charles and I understand why they
didn’t think they could sell it. 1 star out of 5 or a F.
Rosario
+ Vampire #7
I’m
a fan of both the anime and the manga. Even with that I can only give this one
3 stars out of 5 or a C rating. The story line in this one just did not draw me
in.
Shovel
Knight Guidebook
I’ve
read about this game before in other game guides, but I’ve never played the
game. For a game guide book I would say that it’s about average. It seemed to
have some helpful info. I actually found this book at a Dollar Tree store, so
it must not have sold well when it was first released. 3 stars out of 5 or a C.
As a side note, from what I’ve previously read about the game and this book, it
just doesn’t seem like that interesting of a game.
Life
and Death: Twilight Reimagined
First
off I will admit that I do not like Stephenie Meyer’s writing style. For the
base Twilight books I liked the movies better. The concept of changing around
the genders of the characters intrigued me. Then I read it…I feel like I lost
brain cells on it. This book was written even worse than the main series. Even
though the main character was supposed to be male, Meyer wrote him as if he was
still a female. I noticed this in the main series as well. I don’t think that
she is capable of writing male characters. There was a twist in this that made
the story different from the original. I actually think that if she had done
that in Twilight the book would have been better, but she wouldn’t have been
able to write so many follow up books. I would not recommend this book to
anyone unless you are trapped on an island with nothing else to do or read. 2
stars out of 5 or a D.
Star
Trek: The Next Generation – Starfleet Academy 9: Nova Command
Even
though this was a junior reader, I as an adult really liked it. I will admit
that this is the first Star Trek book I have read even though I grew up
watching both the films and T.V. series. This was a nice way to learn more
about Picard’s past. It made me really want to find the rest of the books in
the series. I found this book at 2nd and Charles in the kids
section. 5 stars out of 5 or a A.
