2020 Book Reviews January-March
Hi Everyone. Here are my book reviews for the first quarter of the year. I'm hoping that this is finding you all at least health and that COVID-19 doesn't have you too down. All the books you will find on this list are books, manga, and graphic novels that have an ISBN.
Fiction
By
Rick Riordan
I
really enjoyed this book. It was a fun mix of Norse mythology with modern life.
I also really liked how they handled gender and gender fluid in this book. Not
to give anything away, but I actual think that my favorite character is the one
this relates to and their interactions with Magnus are funny. I would recommend
this book to anyone who loves mythology. This one I actually found online as a
free audio book on a site recommended by a friend. 5 stars out of 5 or an A.

I want to be honest and say that I never really got into the
Avatar series. I also liked the live action movie (I know hard core fans will
think less of me for this, but to me it was a great movie. I have a habit of
liking movies that others do not). This book I would recommend for teens. It also
shows a same sex relationship in a positive light. The art work was ok, but
there was something off or incomplete about the coloring. This book was
checked out from the Aurora Public Library. 4 stars out of 5 or a B.

It was a nice teen friendly story. The only reason I didn't
give it a perfect score is there just was something about the artwork that felt
unfinished. Checked out from the Aurora Public Library. 4 stars out of 5
or a B.
Nonfiction
The
information for this book came from only a few resources so I felt that the
information could have been biased or incomplete. It was also not what I was
expecting when I decided to check it out from the Aurora Public Library. It
mostly just focused on things like speed records and the like. I was looking
for more info on records that the games themselves broke and not just on the
players. The section on the different characters was somewhat more interesting.
Also the copy I got from the library had some huge publishing flaws. There was
a huge section that was copied from the back of the book that had been inserted
from the back of the book into the front upside down. I felt that the publisher
just did not take the time to verify that the product they were making was any
good and just rushed to get it out. I do not know if other copies have this
same flaw or not. When I told the staff member about it at the library, she
said they were aware of the issue but would keep it out for people to check out
instead of seeing if they could return it to get a good copy… 3 stars out of 5
or a C.
