Ms. Marvel

I was first exposed to this comic book through a professional development panel at my school. The person hosting the panel just gave a few pieces of it to talk about social commentary in comic books and how comics can be used in the classroom. My short exposure made me want to read more. The first comic in this series did not disappoint. It deals with the normal teenage issues, but then also adds culture issues to the mix. I really liked how these topics were covered and I can’t wait to see what is covered in the next one. I checked this out from the Aurora Public Library and a few others from this series. As I read those I will update this post. The Aurora Public Library actually has a good collection of manga and comics, but I have learned it is easiest to just go to the different locations and just check out everything you want at each instead of ordering them. I just make my rotations each month of which branch I go to.

7/26/19 Update

This volume was not as good as the first one. There was some good banter when Wolverine showed up, but the interaction was short lived. If they would have had him in longer it could have really helped the overall story line. They built him up as the teacher that appears when the hero needs them and then he is gone before he really does anything.

7/27/19 Update

Having Loki pop up was great, and having him try to give love advice was funny. Then he leaves…this is just like the last volume where you have a great guest appearance, they’re there for the first part, leave, and then the story line plummets into boringness. This author seems to have a hard time keeping each story line going with them same interesting aspects that they start out with. It started with a bang and then fizzled down to nothing. Very anticlimactic.
